HELP FAMILIES EMERGING FROM HOMELESSNESS
We accept gently used items at our warehouse Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 9:00am—2:00pm. We are located at 431 W Pershing Road, inside the U-haul Building (we suggest you call our office phone 773-285-2800 on the way as we are located on 2nd floor).
Furniture pick ups are scheduled on Thursdays between 9:30 am-1:30 pm. Pick ups are limited to Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, Northbrook, Kenilworth, and Highland Park. We do, kindly, ask for a minimum $100 donation to help cover expenses.

HUMBLE DESIGN CHICAGO
We’re a non-profit organization serving individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness. Using gently donated items from the local Chicago community, we turn four bare walls into clean, dignified and welcoming homes for our client-families. It's a very simple idea that can change a family's future!
WE ARE SO PROUD that Chicago's Humble Design operation is the first expansion program for what Humble Design will grow nationally. The non-profit, based in Detroit and born in 2009 has serviced over 1,000 families to date. Currently in Chicago, we serve two families per week with the goal of growing to three families per week in 2020. We accept gently used furniture and household donations at our warehouse in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. We also offer scheduled pick-up service one day/week for donations from around Chicagoland. Humble Design Chicago is sponsored on a national level by U-Haul and at a city level by CB2 (division of Crate & Barrel).
Humble Design was born out of the belief that decent families emerging from homelessness deserve to come home each day to a clean, friendly, and dignified home. All family members would then have more time, effort and resources to focus on education, home life, employment and building a better future.
Humble Design partners with local area homeless and abuse shelters to identify families that are emerging from shelters and into low-income housing. Many of these families are victims of abuse and have left behind all personal items upon escaping and entering an emergency shelter. Most have no beds, books, toys or furniture to call their own.
Once a partnering agency makes a referral, Humble Design designers meet with the families to do a needs assessment and develop a client wish list. From there, Humble Design designers move swiftly to: place the furnishings, toys, accessories and housewares; do any minor cleaning; and, officially move the families into their new housing.
The end result is something like an extreme makeover on-a-dime.
All client referrals must come through a partnering organization.

VOLUNTEER AT HUMBLE CHICAGO
Help out the design team and see a house transform before your eyes! We first meet at the warehouse then load all of the decorative items into volunteer's vehicles and caravan to the home. After a few hours of hanging photos, making beds, and setting tables, we are ready to welcome our family to their new humble home.
Join us at the warehouse Monday, Tuesday & Friday 10am - 2pm, to help organize incoming donations and possibly help with DIY projects.

JOIN US FOR A DAY OF SERVICE
This is a great way for your corporation or family to give back to the community and see the immediate impact of your service. A group of 10-12 assists the designers with all aspects of furnishing a home, from cleaning and decorating to yard work. At the end of the day, you’ll witness the home reveal and experience the joy, amazement, tears, and relief felt by the family.
